Chartered Waters offers fly tying, fly fishing and fly casting classes throughout the year. Call us for our next scheduled class or arrange for a private session.

Fly Tying - We conduct 4 and 5 week classes (2 hours each) that introduces you to the basics of fly tying, ultimately graduating to tying some local patterns for your favorite water. We'll explain the various stages of insect life, how to tie those different stages and when to use them. We also offer a one day crash course for the vacationing angler who wants to learn the art and have time to tie a few bugs while they're here.

You'll leave us with a skill base that will allow you to start tying your own flies. Vises and materials can be provided or you can purchase equipment at our store. Cost of the classes are $45 per student.

Fly Casting - Learn the art of fly casting in a hands-on setting, understanding and applying the various type of casts for the different situations that will occur.

 Fly casting classes are:

   • 2 week classes (2-3 hours each class)
   • One day classes (4-6 hours)
   • 1 - 2 hour crash course classes

Cost is $45 per student for 2 week and one day classes. Save with our group rates. Equipment can be your own or we will provide it for you. You can also purchase at our store.

Fly Fishing - We offer two kinds of packages for fly fishing classes.

We have the 4 week package (2 hours per week) where we give you a complete education on fly fishing for trout. From picking up a fly rod for the first time all the way to knowing how to read a certain piece of water and to know what's happening underwater at that moment and how best to pull a trout from it. We'll have classroom sessions, lake sessions and ultimately a wade trip to the dam to put everything we learned to the test. Price is $95 per student (5 person limit).

Our other Fly Fishing class is a one day class where the first half of the day is spent learning to get your rod and reel set up correctly and ready for fishing. You'll learn the casting basics, tying knots, setting the hook, playing, netting and releasing a fish. We'll spend the second half of the day on the water applying your knowledge, reading the water and the fish activity and actually catching trout. This is a great way to get a good education of fly fishing as well as get a half days guided trip and learn some Lake Taneycomo secrets. A wonderful way to start a vacation for you or with your family while you're in the Branson area. In one day, learn about what it will take to catch trout with a fly rod in Taneycomo and other area trout streams. Then spend the rest of your time down here doing it successfully yourself. Cost is $145 per person (3 person limit). Everything including lunch is provided.

Graduates of our Fly Tying, Fly Casting and Fly Fishing schools get a 20% discount off ANY of our guided trips packages.
